Cooley's Stone House Tavern
Ten beers on tap, a Guinness poured properly, and corned beef cured in the house. On Pioneer Street at Main and Church, a block off the Hall of Fame's front door.

A fieldstone house on Pioneer Street.
The tavern is younger than the walls it sits in. What can actually be documented is short — so here it is, straight, with nothing invented in between.
- The village core
- 49 Pioneer Street stands inside the Cooperstown Historic District, listed on the National Register in 1980 for the village's pre-1900s core. The nomination text has never been digitised, so the house's own build date is not on the public record.
- 2004
- Cooley's opens. The year is painted on the shield that hangs over the porch, under a harp: Est. 2004, Stone House Tavern, Food and Spirits.
- 2005 to 2012
- The tavern keeps a page of its own at cooleystavern.com — a black screen with a photograph of the green porch, the address, a link to more pictures, and a note congratulating Charlie and Lindsay on their wedding. It runs until the spring of 2012. After that the news moves to the Facebook page, opened on 24 April 2010, and stays there.
- March 2020
- The night before St Patrick's Day, the state orders the bars shut at eight. The kitchen turns over to takeout inside a day: corned beef and cabbage dinners for ten dollars, twenty-five cent wings, and if you were paying cash they would carry it out to your car.
- Today
- Ten lines behind the bar, a kitchen that runs to ten, and a room that stays open to two — seven days a week, year round, twenty-two years in.
At the bar
Ten lines, a full bar, and the Guinness that turns up in the reviews.
Groups, and the weekends the village fills
Cooley's does not take reservations, but it does take groups. Reviewers describe ringing ahead on a Friday night and being told there was plenty of room — that is still the way to do it. Induction weekend is the one worth a phone call well in advance.
